Saira Danish Ahmed is a Karachi-based curator, educator, writer, and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Karachi Collective (TKC) (2020–Present), a platform dedicated to critical engagement with Pakistan’s contemporary art landscape. With over two decades of experience in academia and the arts, her practice bridges curatorial work, teaching, and research. Her exhibitions include Augmentation (2018), developed in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General Karachi and Sanat Initiative, and Dialogues Across Time (2025), curated for the 40th anniversary of Chawkandi Gallery.
Saira has held key academic leadership roles, including Head of Department and Associate Professor at The Imperial Tutorial College (2020–2024), Program Head at The Millennium Universal College (2018–2020), and Head of Department/Program Head at the Textile Institute of Pakistan (2009–2011). She has also taught at the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture (Adjunct Faculty, 2020, 2023–Present) and Beaconhouse National University (Adjunct Faculty, 2023). She currently serves as a thesis advisor to Textile and Fashion Design students at the Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture.
An active writer and scholar, she is an editorial member and contributor to the Journal of Art & Design Education, Pakistan (JADEP). Her published chapter, “Fostering Co-Agency: Progressive Ideologies, Conceptual Frameworks & the Curriculum” (2024), reflects her commitment to progressive pedagogies.
Saira is currently pursuing a PhD at the Department of History, University of Karachi, focusing on the necropolis of Jam Lohar in Taung and the history of its inhabitants, the Burfats.
