Saira Danish Ahmed has a postgraduate degree in Art & Design Education from the University of New South Wales, Australia and another in History from Karachi University.
Art history and academic writing have been Ahmed’s core areas of interest. She has served as Associate Editor at ArtNow Pakistan and is an active member of the KB Discursive, the critical dialogue lab of the Karachi Biennale Trust. A published writer and art critic, she has written on art extensively for a number of forums including Pakistan’s premier newspaper, DAWN. Ahmed served briefly as Director, Project & Research at Sanat Initiative.
With an academic career spanning over a period of 20 years she has served on advisory committees at degree awarding institutes in Karachi including Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture (IVS) and has been appointed as Consultant and Head Examiner for the Art Syllabus (Secondary School Certificate at The Aga Khan University-Examination Board (AKU). Ahmed has been associated with the Karachi American School (KAS), Textile Institute of Pakistan (TIP), Bahria University, Asian Institute of Fashion Design and The Millennium Universal College (TMUC).
Currently she is engaged in a leadership position, serving as Head of the Fashion Design Program at the Imperial Tutorial College (ITC). Her goal is to devise an implementable method in order to address the gap between the academic curriculum and the design industry both within the local and the global context.
